John & Dede Howard Recreation Trail
The John and Dede Howard Recreation Trail is a multiuse path allowing for beautiful views of Lake Michigan and the St. Joseph River over most of the length. Begins behind the Water Plant, at the south end of Lions Park Drive (just below the pedestrian bridge from Lake Court), and runs north to Park Street; west to Silver Beach (use the sidewalk); north along the park sidewalk to Elm Street; north and then east along the edges of Whirlpool Field; north on the south side of Vine Street; east through the Upton Arboretum along the St. Joseph River, and continues east below the Berrien County Courthouse before ending at the Bicentennial Bridge. The trail starts at the base of State Street at the Upton Arboretum. There are two trails starting at this point. The trail going east continues below the Berrien County Courthouse before ending at the Bicentennial Bridge. Going west, the trail runs on the south side of Vine Street; then west along the edges of Whirlpool Field and south along the park sidewalk to Elm Street. Proceed west to Silver Beach (use the sidewalk). Follow Lake Street east to the end at Park St. Travel east one block to Lions Park Drive. Turn south (right) and follow the trail to the end behind the water plant (just below the pedestrian bridge to Lake Court). |
